The third volume of the MACRO/HALL series dedicated to site-specific installations. Artworks by Atelier van Lieshout - commonly known as AVL - are characterized by a double nature: they are contemporary utopias and at the same time practical and functional solutions to live in harmony with the environment, respecting each individual's freedom. Atelier has developed many projects combining art, architecture and design, proposing a particular and recognizable style for furniture, modular houses, objects and sculptures for exteriors. During the last years, AVL developed a highly definite style, in which the absence of design has become an important characteristic; however the most specific feature of AVL is the usage of industrial materials such as steel pipes and panels of plywood, whose rough functionality contrasts with the series of sculptures in coloured polyester: human figures represented in different attitudes and actions, but also complete series of human organs (heart, brain, liver, sexual organs, both female and male)
