The unique selling proposition of the Land Rover File, as with the six others in the File Books series, is that it includes in one volume everything there is to know about Land Rovers, Range Rovers, Range Rover Sports, Discoverys, and Freelanders. Books on Land Rover abound but none has this wealth of readily accessible accurate and up-to-date detail.

The launch of the book coincides with the latest Freelander. All five ranges are described model by model, each one with a descriptive entry and specification, and there is a history of Land Rover's evolution from a stop-gap replacement for the wartime Jeep to the sophisticated highway-cruising Range Rover Sport.

The bewildering array of military Land Rovers, foreign assembly, Land Rover fire engines, ambulances, emergency vehicles, cross-country playthings and safari adventurers is dealt with in detail. The first Land Rover was presented at the Amsterdam motor show in April 1948. Its worldwide success astonished its creators yet Rover owed its survival to this versatile vehicle, which saw service not only on the quiet farms it was aimed at, but also in every desert, jungle, swamp, mountain and troublesome spot throughout the world.

Land Rovers proliferated, with open and closed bodies, and bewildering permutations of engines and drives for military and civilian use. Prototypes were produced for special tasks and special forces, it was stretched for extra load carrying and miniaturised for loading in aircraft The common heritage of Range Rover, Discovery, Freelander and Range Rover Sport was a cross-country agility that became an industry benchmark. "The Land Rover File" is an Eric Dymock Motor Book with additional research by experts James Taylor, Graham Robson, Mike Gould and Roger Crathorne. It includes hitherto unacknowledged and even secret prototypes, known only to Land Rover insiders. This is a comprehensive reference book as well as a good read.
