The author follows the life of Andrew Marvell, spy, politician, and beguiling 17th Century poet and writer of one of the most famous love poems of all times. We follow Marvell through his childhood, his travels in Europe and Russia, the trauma of war, and his endless battle between his suspicion of women and his yearning for them. The author, formerly a stage manager for many British theatres, was film editor for Time Out magazine in the 1980s, later becoming deputy literary editor for the London Times.
