Bernardo Bertolucci was born on March 16th, 1941, in Parma, Italy. In 1961 he started his career in cinema as assisstant director on Pier Paolo Pasolini's film Accattone. In his films we often find a dast-changing society where insecurity and uncertainty are bound to take over.

In spite of that his characters did not want to give up and get in line. Bertolucci's notoriety peaked in 1972 with Last Tango in Paris a controversial and scandalous film which marked an era. In 1987 came the definitive consecration with his colossal The Last Emporer, winnine nine Academy Awards®.
