Take the Challenge by Yourself or With a Group of Friends -- You Could Be Handsomely Rewarded!

Contest ends September 12, 2000

What sitcom character wore a Band-Aid in every episode? Why is R2-D2 so named? In what film is Mike a narcoleptic street hustler? What two women seras the models for the Statue of Liberty? Who created the World Wide Web? What lobe of the brain governs smell?

These are a few of the 1,566 questions in film, music, TV, arts, humanities, science, history, politics, sports and geography that await the true masters of trivia and general knowledge.

Answer all questions correctly and you will win (or share) the $25,000 top prize for yourself, your group or a charity of your choice. If no one answers all the questions correctly (and that's a distinct possibility), the person or group getting the most correct wins a cool $10,000 while five runners-up receive $1,000 each. Any catches? Well, to qualify for the prize money, you must answer at least 60 percent (or 940 out of 1,566) of the questions correctly.

The contest ends September 12, 2000. Results and answers will be posted on our special Trivia Challenge web site (coming soon).

In addition to tough trivia, the book also features an informative and occasionally provocative section of factoids some of which feature subtle hints for more observant challengers. The results will be posted on our web site approximately one month after the contest ends.

INTRODUCTION
From the Authors

We challenge you, whether as an individual or as a group, to engage in this difficult but potentially rewarding task of answering a wide range of trivia and general knowledge questions covering the vast panoply of human endeavor, from entertainment and the arts to history, geography, sports, leisure, science and technology.

In an era greatly influenced by physical fitness and the passivity of TV watching, we wanted to bring forth a challenge of Herculean proportion, where the mind finally gets a tough workout. Taking and passing this test will no doubt add years to your cognitive life and vitalize your intellectual aura!

Since the entry deadline is Sept. 12, 2000, you have considerable time to complete the Challenge, so do not let the number of questions intimidate you. Depending on where you begin, all you need to answer is a few each day, combining research and your own ingenuity. To pass this test and qualify for a chance at the money, you must answer at least 60% of the questions correctly.

There are eight categories of written questions and one category of Photo Challenge questions. You will also find some fill-in-the-blank questions as well as questions that ask you to provide the next line from a song.

Throughout the book, you will find DID YOU KNOW? sections, which are not part of the contest but contain some interesting and often times humorous bits of information (as well as possibly the occasional hint!).

If you answer all the questions correctly, we will be astonished yet pleased that someone or some group could accomplish this feat, and for your efforts you will receive (or share if others tie you) the grand prize of $25,000!

Should no one answer all the questions correctly, then the person or group who answers the most questions receives $10,000. The five runners-up will receive $1,000 each. Should you win this Challenge, you have the option of donating all or a portion of your winnings to a charitable, educational or other nonprofit organization.

We hope it's not only the money you're after but also the challenge and reward from learning new information, honing your skills and applying your intelligence that make this Challenge appealing.

Hints to some questions are scattered throughout the book, and the website will occasionally offer more hints, so be sure to check the site at least once a month.

Please read the contest rules and official entry form carefully.

We wish you success in this most difficult challenge.
